Estimates are posted approximately 5 weeks after the end of each month except during the winter.
Estimates of fishery impacts are calculated differently depending on whether the quota is a state quota or a federal quota.
State sport quotas are used for greenlings, the "other nearshore rockfish" group and the "black rockfish-blue rockfish" group. Impacts consist of estimated landings taken by the ocean boat sport fishery.
Federal sport quotas are used for yelloweye rockfish, canary rockfish, black rockfish and cabezon. Impacts consist of estimated landings and other fishery-related mortality in the sport fishery.
We calculate estimates by statistical month, so, for example, May 1 falls into the statistical month of April in 2011.
Sport groundfish impacts are tracked by weight. One metric ton = 2,204.6 pounds.
When a sport groundfish quota is reached or is projected to be reached, inseason adjustments may be made to sport fishing regulations in order to slow or stop fishing-related impacts on that species or species group.
