Aspen Valley Access Area

Aspen Valley Ranch is approximately 25 miles southeast of Prineville in the vicinity of Post, Oregon.  Big Game hunting is available September through December on 8,000 acres of private land in the Newsome Creek drainage on the north foothills of the Maury Mountains in the Maury WMU (#36) on a limited basis to those hunters with a valid controlled hunt tag for deer and elk or a general season cougar tag.  This property also provides additional access to 480 acres of land-locked BLM lands.

Eligibility: Hunters must have been successful in drawing a controlled tag for the unit (136, 236X, 236Y, 236A, 136R, 236T) or with a general season cougar tag prior to applying for a reservation to hunt on this ranch.

How to Reserve a Hunt:

Notice: Online registration for this hunting opportunity begins August 1, 2014 at 6:00am.  Reservations are booked on a first-come, first-served basis.

  1. Thoroughly read the conditions and hunt date requirements below.  Reservations made by hunters who do not meet the requirements will be deleted.
  2. Enter the Online Reservation System
    • Enter your hunter information and select “Register for a Class”
    • Select the “Private Land Hunts” tab.
    • Select the desired hunt period (make sure the location is “Aspen Valley Access Area”), and continue through “purchase” until you receive a receipt.
  3. Only 1 person per party may make a reservation.  You must enter a valid email address and telephone number or your reservation may be deleted.
  4. ODFW staff will contact you to discuss area regulations and document other hunters in your party.
  5. Be sure to obtain and fill out a hunt reservation from the self-serve kiosk when you arrive at the Access Area.

Conditions

  • Only hunters with a valid tag are allowed on the property.
  • For hunts that allow 2 hunters per party, the name and Hunter ID of both hunters must be available at time of reservation for follow-up documentation with ODFW staff.
  • All hunters (including additional hunter in party) are only allowed one reservation per year.
  • Youth hunters must have a guardian in attendance (over the age of 21, who may not hunt).
  • No motorized vehicles are permitted on the property as this is strictly a “hike-in and pack-out” hunt area with no exceptions.  Parking is permitted along the Newsome Road in established parking areas on the east side of the hunt area (refer to map that will be provided).  Hunters are encouraged to bring game carts.
  • No overnight camping is permitted; however, this ranch is adjacent the Ochoco National Forest that has ample overnight camping areas on the Forest.
  • No camp fires or warming fires are permitted on this ranch.
  • Hunters may NOT hunt other species of wildlife, including sage rats, predators, furbearers, game birds, and non-protected species.
