Open Fields funding is used to pay landowners on a per-acre basis to allow public hunting on private land in the Willamette Valley. Properties that experience goose damage are given priority. Landowners may choose to enroll on a “Welcome to Hunt” or a “By-Permission” basis. All By-Permission hunting reservations are coordinated through ODFW Staff.
Interested landowners should contact the Willamette Valley Open Fields Coordinator, Ron Bramlett, at 503-798-3610.

Open Fields Schedule
It is important to note that this is a limited duration funding source, and access projects may not be supported beyond the 2012/13 hunting season if additional federal funds are not made available.
At this time we are enrolling new landowners in both the Willamette Valley and the Columbia Basin.

Background Information
Oregon Open Fields is a grant that the A&H Program has been awarded from the US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) through the new Voluntary Public Access and Habitat Incentive Program. Part of the 2008 Farm Bill, this program provides block grants to state agencies and tribes to increase public hunting access to private land and improve wildlife habitat on enrolled lands.
The A&H Program has been awarded funding for the first two years of a three-year grant. Year 3 funding has been awarded conditional on availability of federal funds. The A&H Board and the Fish and Wildlife Commission have approved expenditure of Year 1 funding only. |
