NEWPORT – Oregon’s Coastal Coho Stakeholder Team today announced a Nov. 14 – 15 meeting in Rockaway Beach to continue working on conservation actions to benefit coastal coho salmon.
The stakeholder team advises both the State of Oregon and the National Marine Fisheries Service (NOAA Fisheries) on Oregon’s Coastal Coho Project. Members of the team represent fish conservation, fishing, private land, timber, agricultural, tribal and other interests.
The meeting is scheduled Nov. 14, from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m., and Nov. 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Civic Center , 276 Hwy 101 South. A public comment period is scheduled at 2:15 p.m.
The group will discuss top priorities for coastal coho management along the north coast. Members of the North Coast Watershed Council will outline local management actions, and local resource user groups will offer perspective about programs that are working well, and others that might benefit from improvements.

The state of Oregon and the National Marine Fisheries Service began the collaborative project last year to address the conservation of coastal coho. The objectives of the project are to:
- Assess the Oregon Plan for Salmon and Watersheds effort to conserve and rebuild coastal coho populations.
- Use the assessment to assist NOAA Fisheries with a status review.
- Use the assessment as a basis to seek legal assurances for local participants.
- Use the assessment as a foundation for developing a conservation plan for coho.
