ROSEBURG – It’s time to pack up the kids and fishing gear and head to Floras Lake for the Van Wormer fishing derby on Saturday, June 2. The Langlois Lions are sponsoring the free event for kids from pre-school age through 13 years.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at Floras Lake in Boice Cope Park, and the derby runs from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. A grand prize and prizes in age categories for the most fish caught, longest fish and heaviest fish will be awarded at 11:30 a.m. Prizes include six rod and reel combinations donated by the Curry Anadromous Fishermen.
The Langlois Lions are providing boats to take the kids out on the lake since bank angling is limited. Kids are encouraged to bring their own life jackets and fishing equipment.
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will stock the lake with rainbow trout prior to the derby.
