LA
GRANDE, Ore. – The
Oregon Department
of Fish and Wildlife
is offering a free,
one-day training
course Saturday
in La Grande for
individuals interested
in becoming Angler
and Aquatic Education
Program certified
instructors.
“You
don’t
need to be an expert
angler,” said
Chris Willard,
ODFW Angler and
Aquatic Education
Program Coordinator. “A
strong interest
in introducing
children and adults
to the sport is
all that’s
required.”
The
training provides
the knowledge and
skills needed to
successfully deliver
the program curriculum
and to effectively
share their fishing
expertise. It includes
hands-on activities
as well as classroom
instruction. The
program was developed
to teach angling
skills, ethics
and responsibilities,
water safety and
basic aquatic ecology
to children and
adults
In
addition to completion
of the one-day
training requirement,
interested individuals
must be 21-years-old
and pass a background
check.
.
"If
you remember
the
thrill
of
landing
your
first
fish,
you
can
help
others
experience
that
excitement
by
getting
involved
in
the
Angler
and
Aquatic
Education
program.
It’s
a
way
to
share
your
knowledge
and
to
give
back
to
the
sport" said
Mary
Hoverson,
ODFW
Northeast
Region
Education
Coordinator.
