Detroit, Ore – The free fishing weekend event scheduled at Detroit Lake on Saturday has been cancelled officials at the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and the United States Forestry Service announced today.

The youth event, originally scheduled Saturday at Hoover Campground from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. has been cancelled due to the presence of blue-green algae at Detroit Lake.

“Our goals for the event are to provide children with a fun experience and share with them the thrills that fishing has to offer,” says Greg Grenbemer, ODFW Marion Forks Hatchery Manager.  “However, at this time, we feel we could provide a more fulfilling fishing experience for the kids when the blue-green algae levels are low.”
