ENTERPRISE, Ore.- The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife today announced the closure of the Snake River spring chinook sport fishery effective August 4, 2010 at 11:59 p.m.
Biologists from Idaho and Oregon, who cooperatively manage the fishery, recommended the closure because the harvest quota of 2,000 hatchery chinook has been met.
“Overall catch rates were pretty good, despite anglers struggling with high flows from the dam”, said Jeff Yanke, ODFW district fish biologist in Enterprise. “Anglers also did well on the Powder and Boise rivers, where fish trapped at the Hell’s Canyon Dam were released to create additional fishing opportunities.”
