SALEM, Ore.—ODFW Outdoors will host three pheasant hunting workshops this fall: Sept. 17-18 in Klamath Falls, Sept. 23 near Corvallis, and Oct. 1-2 in La Grande.

Any adult can join the Klamath Falls and Corvallis hunts, while the La Grande hunt is specially geared towards women (minimum age of 18).

These events are perfect for beginners and start with a firearm safety review and shooting practice before moving on to an actual hunt with dogs and a hunting guide. All necessary gear and equipment, plus lunch, are provided.

“These workshops provide participants with hands-on outdoor skill-building activities in a casual, supportive environment that emphasizes safety,” says Mark Newell, ODFW outdoor skills coordinator. “It also allows people to try hunting and see if they like it before they invest in equipment.”

The workshops are reasonably priced at $50 for the two-day events and $40 for the one-day event. Participants are responsible for purchasing all appropriate licenses and validations before the event: a hunting license ($29.50 for residents), upland game bird validation ($8.50) and a free HIP validation. Licenses and validations are sold online, at license sales agents and at many ODFW offices but they will not be sold at the event.
