Fish and Wildlife Commission to consider upcoming spring chinook, sturgeon seasons

January 28, 2011

SALEM, Ore. – The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission will weigh in on the upcoming Columbia and Willamette river spring chinook and sturgeon seasons when it meets in Salem on Friday, Feb.4.

The meeting will begin at 8 a.m. at ODFW Headquarters at 3406 Cherry Ave. NE in Salem.

The Commission will be asked to provide general guidance for ODFW staff to use in setting the upcoming spring chinook and sturgeon seasons on the Columbia and Willamette rivers. The details of the 2011 spring chinook and sturgeon fisheries on the Columbia and Willamette rivers will be set at the Feb. 8 meeting of the Columbia River Compact in Oregon City.

The Commission will be asked to appoint a new member to represent agricultural interests on ODFW Fish Screening Task Force.

The Fish Screening Program coordinates a cost share program for the installation of screens at water diversions. Its seven members are appointed by the Commission and represent agricultural, fisheries and public interests.

The Commission will be asked to approve the updated rules relating to the Department’s wildlife integrity rules, Division 056.

Finally, the Commission will be asked to select the winning 2011 Upland Game Bird Art Stamp from among five finalists. A total of 14 entries depicting a spruce grouse were entered for this year’s contest.

The Commission is the policy-making body for fish and wildlife issues in the state. The seven-member panel meets monthly. Agenda item exhibits may be requested by calling the ODFW Director’s Office at 800-720-6339 or 503-947-6044.

Public testimony will be held Friday morning immediately following the expenditure report. Persons seeking to testify on issues not on the formal agenda may do so by making arrangements with the ODFW Director’s Office, at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting, by calling 800-720-6339 or 503-947-6044.

Reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed for individuals requesting assistive hearing devices, sign language interpreters or large-print materials. Individuals needing these types of accommodations may call the ODFW Director’s Office at 800-720-6339 or 503-947-6044 at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting.
