Special Commission meeting by conference call March 17: Public may listen in at regional ODFW offices

March 14, 2011

SALEM, Ore.—The Fish and Wildlife Commission will have a special meeting by conference call on Thursday, March 17 from 9 a.m.-noon. The meeting’s agenda will be posted online sometime tomorrow (Tuesday, March 15).

During the meeting, the Commission will handle some of the matters it had planned to consider in Florence last week. That March 11 meeting was cancelled due to the tsunami warning for the Oregon coast.

Members of the public may listen to the meeting at one of the following six ODFW regional offices. Anyone wishing to testify on one of the agenda items will be able to do so at one of these locations.

During Thursday’s meeting, the Commission will adopt temporary rules and consider fishing regulations for sardine and Pacific halibut fisheries and Columbia and Lower Willamette River fisheries. It will also make a decision on funding several proposed Restoration and Enhancement and Access and Habitat projects. The public forum, where members of the public can provide testimony about items not on the meeting agenda, will come immediately after the first item on the agenda (the adoption of temporary rules).

Other items from the original March 11 meeting agenda will be deferred to the April 22 Commission meeting in Salem. Those items are the five-year review period for wildlife management plans, granting OSP the authority to take or harass wildlife, and the executive session related to the re-licensing of Opal Springs hydroelectric facility. The Commission will adopt regulations related to ocean salmon seasons at the April 22 meeting.

The Commission is the policy-making body for fish and wildlife issues in Oregon.
