Pinched Barb |
A barbless hook – a hook manufactured without barbs or a hook with the point barb removed or bent down to the shank.
“For decades, the Oregon State Police has enforced barbless hook requirements in various state fisheries, including ocean salmon and Columbia River sturgeon, through visual inspection of hooks. Current enforcement of the new barbless hook rule on the Columbia River and its affected tributaries is conducted in the same manner. Troopers do not ensure compliance through the use of cotton balls, business cards or any other means of catching material on a barb.”
Lieutenant David Anderson, Oregon State Police, Fish and Wildlife Division |
