A. The most common mistake hunters make when applying as a member of a hunting party hunt is forgetting to list the party leader or listing the wrong party leader. This can lead to you or the whole party going through the draw as individuals. If the party leader -does not apply, all party members will be treated as individuals in the draw. Always check your application for accuracy immediately after purchase. The agent who sold you the application can personally make the correction/change up to the end of business day after the sale. The application(s) can be corrected; the deadline to make corrections is June 1 by ODFW’s License Services staff. See the “Correcting Errors/changing applications” section of the current regulations or contact the Controlled Hunts Section for help at (503) 947-6100 or 1-800-708-1782.
A. Either the hunt was listed on your application or as a member of a party you automatically drew the leaders choices no matter what choices you listed. Before becoming a party member it is important to check that the leader and you want the same hunt choices. Please remember it is your responsibility to check the accuracy of your application after purchase. Miscommunication between the licensing agent and yourself can lead to you becoming successful for a hunt you did not want and possibly losing your preference points. A. Preference points are for the current year's drawing. After the June 20th draw results, if you were unsuccessful for your first choice, or if you purchased a point saver in the Big Game draw, it will show after January 1, of the following year.
A. Party applicant's points are determined by totaling the preference points of all party members then calculating the average (divide total points by how many are in the party). Average points will be rounded up from .51 and down from .50 to the next whole number. (Example. 3.51 would round up to 4; 3.50 would round down to 3 points.) Also, if you have a non-resident in your party, it puts the entire party in nonresident status. Only 3% to 5% (depending on the species) of the total tags available for each hunt go to non-residents. What this means is; there must be an equal amount of non-resident tags available to match how many non-residents are in your party to enable your party to draw.
