Most big game hunters must purchase their tag no later than the day before the hunt begins. (For bear and cougar, the deadline is the day before Western Oregon rifle deer season opens).
ODFW created an exception to this rule to help hunters who forgot about the deadline or couldn’t get their tag on time. Here’s how it works:
- Fill out the application for Exception to Tag Sale/Pickup Deadline. The application requires you to sign an affadvait stating that you have not yet tried to hunt without the tag.
- Pay exception fee (varies from $14.50- $25 depending on tag and residency status) along with regular cost of tag. Do this at your nearest ODFW office that sells licenses, or by mail or fax order (additional $2 shipping/handling fee). These exception applications cannot be processed online or at a license sales agent.
- Take your tag home with you if you purchase it at an office. Mail/fax order documents are shipped within 10 days.
