2009 Ladd Marsh Birdathon was a great success!

On the weekend of May 9 and 10, 2009 Ladd Marsh Birdathon participants observed more than 110 different species from staffed birding stations and on field trips. Highlights included a great-tailed grackle (only the second ever reported for Union County), dunlin, black-bellied plover, semi-palmated plover, sora, Virginia rail, black tern, Forster’s tern, all six local swallow species and newly-hatched sandhill crane chicks.
The kids in attendance had a great time—22 of them completed the Junior Birder Program to earn a patch and field guide.
