Alsea Hatchery

Alsea Hatchery

Best time to visit: December - March for adult winter steelhead. November - March for spawning activity. Adult white sturgeon and rainbow trout are present for viewing all year.

Fish raised: Winter steelhead and rainbow trout.

What to see and do

At the hatchery: The hatchery offers a stream scene pond, sturgeon pond and trophy trout pond for public viewing, as well as an information kiosk, picnic area and public restrooms. The Alsea River offers good fishing for winter steelhead and cutthroat trout. The lower river and tidewater areas offer good fishing for fall chinook. Guided group tours of the hatchery are available by advance arrangement.

Nearby: Several parks with picnic areas are located along the Alsea River. Camping is limited to the lower river.

From the east: Travel west on Hwy. 34 to milepost 43. Turn right and travel 3/10 mile on a paved road to the hatchery.

From the west: Take Hwy. 34 to milepost 43. Turn left and travel 3/10 mile on a paved road to the hatchery.
