These rules were adopted by the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission on June 2, 2011 and became effective July 1, 2011.
The rules incorporate recommendations the Dog Training Advisory Group reached consensus on during their meetings held during March and April 2011.
What are the current rules for training my hunting dog?
- The prohibition on dog training or dogs running at large in game bird nesting habitat during April – July is lifted.
- Dog training in productive wildlife habitat during April – July is no longer considered wildlife harassment.
- Puts in rule the permit dog trainers will need to use to release domestically-raised game birds.
The free permit is available online and is valid once downloaded and completed. A copy must also be submitted to ODFW.
- Allows for the taking of properly marked domestically-raised game birds during training activities.
