Dixie Meadow Access Area

Note: The online reservation system for Dixie Meadow Access Area will open at 6am, August 1.

The Dixie Meadow Access Area is located approximately 10 miles southeast of Prineville off highway 380.  Big game rifle hunting is available for pronghorn, mule deer, and elk in the Ochoco WMU (#37) on a limited basis to hunters with a valid controlled hunt tag.  This property provides access to 5,835 acres of private land, plus 640 acres of land locked BLM and state lands. 

Eligibility: Hunters must have been successful in drawing a controlled tag for the unit (137, 237B, 237C1, 237C2, 237X, 237Y, 237T1, 237T2, or 437) prior to applying for a reservation to hunt this ranch.

How to Reserve a Hunt:

  1. Thoroughly read the conditions and hunt date requirements below.
  2. Send an email to with the following information;
    1. Name
    2. Hunter ID,
    3. Telephone Number
    4. Tag Drawn
    5. List of your top 4 date choices, in order of preference, from the list of hunt dates below.
    6. If you are hunting with another hunter list the name and hunter ID of the individual you will be hunting with.
  1. Incomplete emails will not be accepted
  2. Emails received prior to 6:00am August 1 will not be accepted
  3. First come, first served in order the emails are received
  4. You will be notified of your hunt period once the selection is done.

  • Only hunters with a valid tag are allowed on the property.
  • For hunts that allow 2 hunters per party, the name and Hunter ID of both hunters must be available at time of reservation for follow-up documentation with ODFW staff.
  • All hunters (including additional hunter in party) are only allowed one reservation per year.
  • Youth hunters must have a guardian in attendance (over the age of 21, who may not hunt).
  • No motorized vehicles are permitted on the property as this is strictly a “hike-in and pack-out” hunt area with no exceptions. Parking is permitted in established parking areas (refer to map that will be provided). Hunters are encouraged to bring game carts.
  • No overnight camping is permitted.
  • No camp fires or warming fires are permitted on this ranch.
  • Hunters may NOT hunt other species of wildlife, including sage rats, predators, furbearers, game birds, and non-protected species.
  • Hunters are required to fill out a hunt permit at the main check-in kiosk station.
