ODFW Salmon and Trout Advisory Committee to meet on Feb. 25

SALEM, Ore. — ODFW’s Salmon and Trout Enhancement Program (STEP) Advisory Committee will meet virtually on Thursday, Feb. 25.

The meeting will occur via Zoom meeting and the agenda and registration link are available at http://www.dfw.state.or.us/fish/STEP.  The meeting will begin at 12:30 p.m. and the agenda includes review of mini-grant applications, review of a new STEP project at Wizard Falls, setting the 2021 meeting schedule, and other program discussions. The meeting is open to the public but pre-registration is required.

The Committee will review one STEP project proposal for acclimation on the Metolius River at Wizard Falls to improve anadromous reintroduction efforts of spring Chinook in the Deschutes basin. The proposal is available for review on the ODFW website at http://www.dfw.state.or.us/fish/STEP/  Members of the public will be able to comment on the proposal at the meeting or in writing.  Submit written responses to kevin.herkamp@odfw.oregon.gov by 10:00 a.m. on Feb. 25.

The Oregon Legislature created Salmon and Trout Enhancement Program in 1981 to provide a way for volunteers to participate in the restoration of native stocks of salmon, steelhead and trout. The STEP Advisory Committee makes recommendations to ODFW and the Fish and Wildlife Commission on issues regarding its programs. The committee’s 13 members are appointed by the Governor and represent all areas of Oregon.
