Salem, Ore.—Where are the best places to hunt ruffed grouse? How can I target chinook when ocean fishing? What techniques do I use for hunting bear? Visit the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s booth at the Pacific Northwest Sportsmen’s Show and ask these or your own questions. Fish and wildlife experts will be on hand to answer them.

“I look forward to the Sportsmen’s Show as a great place to talk to bird hunters,” said Dave Budeau, ODFW Upland Game Bird Program coordinator. “I expect to get questions on everything from bird populations to hunting locations to our current research projects.”

In addition to scheduled expert times, ODFW staff with field experience will be available throughout the five-day run of the show.

“I get a lot of questions from bear hunters about the new mandatory check in of harvested bears, so I hope to answer questions about that program,” said Brian Wolfer, ODFW wildlife biologist. “I also expect to get questions about techniques of successful bear and cougar hunters.”

ODFW fish experts are slated to discuss shellfish harvest opportunities, warmwater fisheries, marine fishing and more. Eric Schindler, ODFW fisheries biologist in the Newport office, will talk about ocean salmon fishing and trade fish stories with anyone interested. See the schedule below for dates and times.

Information will be available on hunter and angler education, and it’s a great time for show attendees to buy their 2008 fishing and hunting licenses.
