DAYVILLE, Ore.—Flat Creek Road will be closed to all motorized vehicles Monday through Friday from Aug. 2 through Sept. 30. The road will remain open for public use on the weekends, from 6 p.m. Friday evenings to 6 a.m. Monday mornings.
ODFW is initiating major road construction with a private contractor along Flat Creek Road, which provides access to the north side of Phillip W. Schneider Wildlife Area from Highway 26. The lower five miles of Flat Creek Road from the bridge at the John Day River to the parking lot for Aldrich Ponds is being reconstructed to provide better public access, prevent erosion into Flat Creek and to allow for future forest management activities planned for the area.
During the week, the public may access the north end of the wildlife area by foot until the road construction is completed. Flat Creek Road may reopen before Sept. 30 if the construction project is completed ahead of schedule.
