ROSEBURG, Ore. – The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife invites young anglers to join its free family fishing event on Sunday, May 8 at Herbert’s Pond in Canyonville. The event runs 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. with ODFW staff on hand to help kids who want to learn how to fish.

The pond will be stocked with 250 rainbow trout prior to the event. 

“Kids can learn or hone their angling skills, and we’ll have everything they need – loaner fishing equipment and bait,” said ODFW STEP biologist Greg Huchko. “The kids can also learn fish identification, make fish prints, or even try out the backyard bass game.”

Anglers 13 years of age and under can fish for free while those 14-17 need a juvenile angling license. All fishing regulations apply during this event.
