Youth fishing event to be held at Shevlin Pond
June 10, 2011

BEND, Ore. – The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife invites Bend-area youth for a day of fishing at Shevlin Park Pond on Thursday, June 16 from 9 a.m. to noon.

ODFW staff and volunteers will be on hand to help young anglers learn how to bait a hook, cast a rod and even land a fish. There will be loaner fishing poles and bait available for kids who don’t have their own equipment. And to help increase the fun factor ODFW will be stocking the pond with rainbow trout just before the event.

This free event, one of ODFW’s Family Fishing Events, is designed to introduce kids and their parents to the joys of fishing. Shevlin Pond, and Thursday’s event, is open to youth 17 years and younger. Anglers 13 years and under can fish for free and a juvenile angling license is required for youth 14-17 years old.

There is a two fish per day limit at Shevlin Pond.

Shevlin Pond is four miles west of Bend on Shevlin Park Market Road.
