Public invited to meeting on Sept. 14 in Burns on updated greater sage-grouse conservation plan

August 30, 2010

BEND, Ore.—The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will host a public meeting in Burns on Tuesday, Sept. 14 to present information and accept public comment on a five-year update to the greater sage-grouse conservation plan.

The meeting will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Harney County Community Center, 484 N. Broadway Street, Burns.

This is the second public meeting held in the Burns-Hines area to provide ample opportunity for public input.

The updated plan, Greater Sage-Grouse Conservation Assessment and Strategy for Oregon, builds on the 2005 plan and includes accomplishments to date, refined population estimates, core-area mapping and mitigation recommendations. It is available on the ODFW website, https://www.dfw.state.or.us/wildlife/sagegrouse

Comments can be mailed to the headquarters’ address or e-mailed to sage.grouse@state.or.u

A briefing on the updated draft plan will be presented to the Commission at the Sept. 30/Oct. 1 meeting in Bend where public comment on the plan will also be taken, https://www.dfw.state.or.us/news/2010/august/081310b.as

The plan is scheduled for presentation and proposed for adoption at the Commission’s Dec. 3 meeting in Portland. Written comments will be accepted through the Dec. 3rd Commission meeting.

The Oregon Conservation Strategy identifies the greater sage-grouse as a species in need of conservation. Learn more about its critical habitats—sagebrush steppe and shrublands—in the habitat section of the Strategy
