Marine Fisheries Research - Biological and Life History Research for Stock Assessments

Information on age, growth, and maturity is essential information that can be used to improve stock assessments. Our team conducts basic life history and biological research on fishes to better inform stock assessment models of Oregon’s nearshore species. This work is important because for many fish species, we lack basic information on their life history and biology. Our studies include aging using hard structure (e.g. otoliths), and assessing maturity via histological examination of fish gonads. As well as conducting studies on stock structure using methods such as genetics and examining phenotypic variations in structures such as otoliths. This work is currently on-going.
