Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife ODFW responds to requests for public records in a manner that is consistent with and complies with public records law, while managing the impact on agency workload and fiscal integrity. ODFW’s public records policy details the applicable laws and procedure.
Public record includes any writing containing information related to the conduct of the public’s business used or retained by a public body.
Public record does not include any writing unrelated to the conduct of the public’s business.
ODFW cannot create or manipulate documents or data in response to requests for public record.
A public records request does not pertain to information readily available through the ODFW website, published in an agency document such as a brochure, booklet, pamphlet, or other printed material readily provided to the public on a complimentary basis.
To recover costs accrued in responding to public records requests, ODFW charges fees as directed by the Public Records Law. Fees vary depending on the actual time required to research and provide the information. Requests are submitted without payment. Once received, ODFW will review your request and provide an estimate for any required fees according to the standard fee schedule.
Payment processing information is provided to the requestor with the cost estimate invoice.
Agencies are statutorily required to consider and grant reasonable requests to waive and/or reduce fees associated with fulfilling a public records request when doing so is in the public interest because providing access primarily benefits the general public. A request for reduced or waived fees may be submitted in accordance with DAS Statewide Policy 107-001-030.
Records specific to an individual must be requested through the public records process. Lists of controlled hunt winners and other reports about our controlled hunt process are available through our Electronic Licensing System. Customer email addresses and youth customer information are not available for disclosure as public records.
