Salmon and Trout Advisory Committee (STAC)

The STEP Advisory Committee was established with STEP in 1981 to serve as an advisory committee to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) and the Fish and Wildlife Commission. STAC duties outlined in statute include the review of ODFW policies concerning the implementation of STEP and to make recommendations to the Department and the Commission. STAC is comprised of members that represent established regions of the state. STAC members are appointed by the Governor and can serve a maximum of two four-year terms.

STAC holds public meetings 2 times a year at various locations across Oregon. The meeting schedule for the following year is typically approved during the fall. At these meeting STAC will receive updates on STEP programs in the local area, take care of program business, recognize outstanding local STEP volunteers, review and approve mini-grant requests, and listen to public comments and suggestions.

Oregonians that are involved with local fishing groups, have previous experience working with volunteers and/or in community service, and are able to travel at least four times per year are encouraged to apply for current and upcoming vacancies. Committee members:

	Michael Calhoun Representing North Coast 1st term expires June 30th, 2027	Michael Calhoun is a conservationist from Vernonia Oregon. Having grown up on a farm next to Rock Creek, the source of drinking water for his hometown, he came to appreciate the resource of water which we cannot live without. Michael is currently Board Chair of the Columbia Soil & Water Conservation District and formally chaired the Upper Nehalem Watershed Council. He holds a B.A. in Communication Studies from Western Oregon University and a post B.A. in Environmental Studies from the University of Oregon. Michael is the recipient of the Oregon Urban & Community Forestry Award from the Oregon Department of Forestry.
	Mindie Wilson Representing Tenmile, Coos, Coquille 1st term expires March 4, 2028	Mindie Wilson is life-long resident of the Southern Oregon Coast, a current resident of Coos Bay, and an active volunteer member within her community. Mindie is a schoolteacher, an extremely passionate angler and outdoorswoman who still finds time to volunteer with several local STEP groups in the Coos Bay area where she assists with spawning, creel surveys, non-native fish removal, and youth education programs. Mindie also volunteers with multiple non-profit groups including the Coos Riders Association and the South Coast Anglers.
	Roger Lindquist Representing South Coast 2nd term expires June 30, 2029	Roger Lindquist is an avid angler, a baseball fan, and a retired US Navy Veteran who currently lives in the Southern Oregon Coastal community of Gold Beach. Roger has been a long-time volunteer with ODFW where he routinely helps with angler education events, brood stock collection at Huntley Park, and fish propagation efforts at the Indian Creek STEP hatchery.
	Morgan Parks Representing North Willamette 2nd term expires April 24, 2027	Morgan Parks is the Education for Sustainability Manager for the National Wildlife Federation (NWF). Morgan has worked for multiple environmental organizations – all of which involved community education and engagement in stewardship activities for improved watershed health and fish and wildlife habitat. Now in her 10th year at NWF, one of her main focus areas is the Salmon Stewards initiative through ODFW’s Fish Eggs to Fry program with support from the Association of Northwest Steelheaders. She also serves on the Clackamas River Basin Council. In her personal time, Morgan has a toddler and senior Chiweenie that keep her busy and having fun.
	Carolyn Mason Representing South Willamette 1st term expires December 2029	Carolyn Mason has called Oregon’s Willamette Valley home for more than 35 years and spends as much time as possible on the water. An avid fly angler and walk-and-wade fishing guide, she is passionate about sharing her knowledge and helping others experience Oregon’s rivers and streams. She previously served as president of the McKenzie Flyfishers and remains dedicated to supporting healthy fisheries, habitat stewardship, and high-quality angling Prior to retirement, Carolyn served in the U.S. Navy and in municipal public service—experiences that continue to inform her commitment to Oregon’s communities.
	Fred Cholick Representing Eastern Oregon 1st term expires June 30, 2029	Fred A. Cholick has been an avid sportsman his entire life. He was born and raised on Sauvie Island and spent many days hunting and fishing with his dad. Fred's dad instilled in him a love for the outdoors and an appreciation for conservation. He has bachelor's degrees from Oregon State University and master's and PhD from Colorado State University. After retiring from Kansas State University, he moved to Bend, Oregon. Over the last 9 years he has been involved with Central Oregon Flyfishers, serving as the youth coordinator, and is currently past president. In addition, he volunteers with ODFW, specifically the Salmon and Trout Enhancement Program (STEP). Fred’s passion is to inspire the next generation to love fishing, hunting and the outdoors.
