The chemical Rotenone is loaded on a barge for dispersal around the lake.
The natural outflow of the lake was enlarged to help drain a portion of the lake. This drawdown decreased the amount of water to treat so less chemical could be used. It also ensured that treated water would not escape downstream. Originally, pumps were gong to be used to draw down the lake, but last minute glitch required this approach.
