Pink shrimp live short lives and annual recruitment levels are linked to environmental conditions, primarily the strength, duration and timing of ocean currents. These factors result in high annual variability of landings. In 2017, 23 million pounds were landed. Over the last 30 years, the average annual landings have been around 30 million pounds.

Pink shrimp are generally fished at depths of 40 to 125 fathoms (240 to 750 feet) in areas of mud or sand. Shaded areas of the map on the right show approximated commercial concentrations of pink shrimp stocks. These data are resultant of fishery logbook information. Dark areas show the approximate minimum aerial extent of shrimp grounds (1984) and the lighter shaded areas show the largest aerial extent observed from 1980-96. |
