Sport Groundfish Quota History

For simiplicity, the term "quota" is used in place of technical terms such as harvest limit, cap, guideline, etc. Groundfish quotas are tracked by weight (metric tons) rather than by numbers of fish.

"Impacts" are the sum of landings and other fishery-related mortality in the sport fishery.

1/ In some years, impacts to the "black | blue rockfishes combined" group are less than impacts to black rockfish alone. This can happen because impacts are caluclated differently. For black rockfish, impacts include all mortality including released fish that die and fish landed from estuaries and by shore anglers. For black | blue rockfishes combined, only fish landed by ocean boats are counted toward the quota.

2/ The "greenlings" group consists of kelp greenling and rock greenling.

3/ The "other nearshore rockfishes" group consists of brown rockfish, China rockfish, copper rockfish, grass rockfish and quillback rockfish. In 2006 the group also included tiger rockfish and vermilion rockfish.
