How much does my monster halibut weigh?

If you know the length of your halibut, you can find its corresponding weight (monster or not).

What's the largest Pacific halibut sampled by ODFW in the Oregon sport fishery?

The largest halibut by port (listed north to south) are shown below. Source: Lengths are from ODFW sample data, 2001-2023, and round weights are calculated using the IPHC calculator. Not all ports were sampled in all years.

I caught a 32" Pacific halibut. How does my fish compare to others?

You're in good company. Most (28 percent) of the Pacific halibut landed in the Oregon recreational fishery in 2021-2023 were 30-33 inches.



What's the difference between a Pacific halibut and a California halibut?

Closed here, open there... what can I do where?

Anglers may FISH FOR Pacific halibut only in areas open to Pacific halibut fishing and LAND Pacific halibut only at ports located in areas open to Pacific halibut fishing. No person shall be in possession of Pacific halibut on a vessel while fishing in an area closed to Pacific halibut fishing.

From which quota is my catch taken?

Pacific halibut landed at a port will count toward the quota for the subarea in which that port is located.

What halibut management subareas does Oregon consist of?

Subarea Boundaries
Columbia River Leadbetter Pt. (WA) to Cape Falcon (OR)
Central coast Cape Falcon to Humbug Mt.
Southern Oregon South of Humbug Mt. to the Oregon | California border

Stock assessments are conducted by the International Pacific Halibut Commission. Read more at IPHC stock assessment surveys (Oregon is in Area 2A).
