Oregon Statewide Sage-Grouse Conservation Plans and GIS Data

ODFW first developed a plan for the conservation and management of Sage-Grouse in 2005.  This Conservation Assessment and Strategy was updated in 2011 with new information about the species, their populations, and conservation threats and opportunities.

Conservation Assessment and Strategy

The Oregon Sage-Grouse Action Plan was adopted through Governor Kate Brown’s Executive Order 15-18, in preparation for the federal ESA listing determination in September 2015. It builds upon the foundational work of the Oregon Greater Sage-Grouse Conservation Assessment and Strategy and sets an all lands all threats vision for addressing sage-grouse conservation in Oregon.

During the period of the development of the Action Plan, OR/WA BLM also developed land management plan amendments specifically devoted to the management of sage-grouse habitat on BLM administered lands.

BLM Sage-Grouse Planning Documents

During the development of the Conservation Assessment and Strategy, sage-grouse core habitat (also called Priority Areas for Conservation or PACs) and low density areas were identified in Oregon. These core areas have subsequently been incorporated into state, BLM and USFWS planning efforts.
