Management Plans

The Marine Resources Program (MRP) is ODFW’s home for management of fish and wildlife species and habitats in the ocean, bays, and estuaries.  Based in Newport with field offices in Astoria, Charleston and Brookings, MRP staff are responsible for the monitoring, sampling, research and management of commercial and recreational marine fisheries and associated marine habitats. In addition to our fisheries-focused work, the MRP is engaged in a wide variety of research, management and policy actions about all aspects of ocean use and conservation.

The Oregon Nearshore Strategy

The Oregon Nearshore Strategy, first adopted by the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission in December 2005, is a strategic document that establishes priorities for ODFW's management of nearshore marine resources. In 2015 after undergoing an extensive review and update through a public process, the Commission voted unanimously to approve the 10-year update of both the Oregon Conservation Strategy and its marine component the Oregon Nearshore Strategy for submission to the U. S. Fish and Wildlife. These documents have now been integrated and brought to life in a new web-enabled format featuring pictures, videos, and interactive features to search for topics of interest about Oregon’s fish and wildlife species, their habitats, and many of the conservation issues they face. The Nearshore Strategy provides a wealth of information on key nearshore species and habitats, information gaps and needs, and opportunities for public/private conservation actions and partnerships. The Strategy is designed help inspire Oregonians to explore, appreciate and protect our state’s natural resources. We invite you to explore the new Oregon Nearshore Strategy.
