Update July 30, 2013: Dixie Meadows is not open for archery hunting

PRINEVILLE, Ore. — An agreement between two central Oregon landowners and ODFW’s Access and Habitat Program will provide ‘By-Permission’ public hunting access on a total of 15,000 acres for pronghorn, elk, deer and cougar beginning with the 2012 hunting seasons.
Hunters need to have already drawn the appropriate deer, elk or pronghorn controlled tag to hunt on the property.
Aspen Valley Ranch Hunting Access
- 30 miles east of Prineville near Post, Maury Unit
- 8,000 acres on a By-Permission reservation basis
- Open during hunting seasons from 2012-2016
- Hunt for 2013-2016 archery deer and elk, rifle deer and elk, and cougar. (Area not open for archery deer or elk in 2012 season.)
- Also provides access to 480 acres of landlocked public land
- Hunters must park in designated areas and walk-in to hunt. No motorized access is permitted beyond parking area.

In addition to the public hunting opportunities, a $296,949 grant from the USDA Farm Services Administration will help fund wildlife habitat improvements on the property including developing new water sources, treating invasive plants, constructing wildlife friendly fences, and cutting junipers to enhance native grasses and forbs.

Wildlife habitat will also be improved on the property by removing juniper, restoring riparian and meadow habitats, developing new water sources, and re-surfacing roads that will accommodate hunter parking. A $215,689 grant from the USDA Farm Services Administration is helping to fund the habitat improvement work.
