BEND, Ore. –ODFW staff will outline a new process by which anglers can propose new or modified fishing regulations for 2013 at a public meeting to be held Jan. 25 in Bend.
The meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 25 from 6-8 p.m. at the Bend Metro Parks office on 799 SW Columbia.
According to Brett Hodgson, ODFW fish biologist in Bend, the agency solicits public proposals for changes to the fishing regulations every four years. ODFW has modified the procedure this year and placed greater emphasis on local biologists screening those proposals to see if they meet established criteria.
To help anglers and others understand and participate in the new process, local ODFW staff at the meeting will outline the steps to take and answer questions.
Anglers have until the end of February 2012 to submit their proposals for the 2013-2016 regulation period. Anglers will have a chance to consider the staff and public proposals that met the review criteria at a second meeting in May.
Information about the fishing regulation development process – including a list of ODFW staff proposals and guidelines for submitting a proposal –is available on the ODFW website.
