Canby Pond youth fishing event cancelled

October 15, 2012

CLACKAMAS, Ore. — A family fishing event scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 20 at Canby Pond has been cancelled in response to the presence of thick aquatic vegetation.
The one-acre pond is located at Canby Community Park.

“Unfortunately there is more aquatic vegetation in the pond than we would like to see for a family fishing event,” said Jeff Fulop, fish biologist for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s North Willamette Watershed District.

Fulop said thick aquatic vegetation at the popular fishing hole has been an ongoing challenge. This condition makes retrieving spin casting effectively difficult, especially for youngsters.

The event would have been the last of 33 youth fishing events across the state hosted this year by ODFW.
