SALEM, Ore. — The 2013 ODFW auctions and raffles for big game hunting tags grossed $542,601, of which $319,578 will go to the Access and Habitat Program and $185,323 to big game research and management.
The auction of 11 special big game tags grossed $377,000 including $135,000 for a bighorn sheep tag, breaking the previous record of $130,000 set in 2011 and 2005. The sportsman/conservation groups that sponsored the auctions at various meetings and conventions of their organizations in the past few months will keep 10 percent of the auction proceeds ($37,700). Those groups include state and/or national chapters of the Wild Sheep Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, Safari Club International, Mule Deer Foundation, Oregon Hunters Association, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Unlimited Pheasants and Foundation for North American Wild Sheep.
Raffle winners were drawn at the Oregon Hunters Association state convention on May 18, 2013 in Lincoln City. A total of 71,538 raffle tickets were sold, grossing $165,601.
Proceeds from the raffle deer and elk tags will go to the Access and Habitat Program to fund wildlife habitat and hunter access improvement projects in the state. Proceeds from the pronghorn, bighorn sheep, and Rocky Mountain goat raffles and auctions fund the research and management of those species in Oregon.
