SALEM, Ore.—ODFW will host a free elk hunting workshop on Sunday, Oct. 26, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Douglas Ridge Rifle Club in Eagle Creek, Ore.
Topics covered at the workshop will include elk biology and behavior, field dressing and caring for wild game, hunting strategies, choosing a hunting rifle, understanding regulations and the controlled hunt process, using maps and Google Earth to find new places to hunt, and how to scout for wildlife.
Participants will also be able to shoot a variety of hunting rifles at the range, learn to read wildlife tracks and sign, and follow a mock blood trail to practice locating downed game.
The workshop is open to families, including children age 9 and older. No hunting license is required but space is limited and pre-registration is required.
Several elk hunting seasons occur in November.
