Columbia River anglers get extra day to keep unclipped Chinook

September 4, 2014

CLACKAMAS, Ore. – Fishery managers announced yesterday that anglers on much of the lower Columbia River will be able to keep any Chinook salmon, fin-clipped or not, through the upcoming weekend.

The retention of unclipped Chinook salmon between Tongue Point and Warrior Rock was scheduled to close after Saturday, Sept. 6. Under the new rules announced yesterday, anglers may keep unclipped fish through Sunday, Sept. 7.

From Sept. 8 - 14, only adipose fin-clipped Chinook may be kept in this stretch of the river.  All Chinook retention will be closed from Sept. 15-30, but the area is scheduled to re-open to the retention of any Chinook (fin-clipped or not) on Oct. 1.
