CLACKAMAS, Ore. – Henry Hagg Lake will open year-round starting Monday, Nov. 23. The change is a result of both ODFW and Washington County Parks wanting to increase fishing opportunities at the lake and gives anglers an early start to fish one of the largest trout and bass lakes in the Willamette Valley.
“This is a real win-win for ODFW, Washington County Parks, and anglers who like to fish year-round,” said Tom Murtagh, ODFW District Fish Biologist for the area. “To kick off this this new regulation, 150 brood rainbow trout – some are close to 12 pounds -- were just put in the lake, so fishing should be real exciting!”
&Since Hagg Lake opened in the early 1970s, Washington County Parks closed the lake from late November through February for maintenance and to address other resource protection needs. However, management focus at the lake recently changed to increase recreational opportunity for a fast-growing regional population. Hagg Lake offers trout, smallmouth and largemouth bass, crappie and catfish. Consult the 2015 Oregon Sport fishing Regulations for catch limits and gear.
