CLACKAMAS Ore. — The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Outdoor Education program heads to Molalla next week to host another fun-filled day of trout fishing.
The action moves to Shorty’s Pond on Saturday, April 11 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. More than 1,300 rainbow trout will be released into the pond and anglers of all ages will have the opportunity to catch up to five fish ranging from 10 inches to over two pounds.
The Molalla Chapter of the Association of Northwest Steelheaders will join ODFW staff and volunteers to provide rods, reels, tackle, bait, and assistance to anyone who wants to come join in the fun. Participants can bring their own gear or borrow gear that will be available on site at no charge.
“We’re looking forward to another great event with our partners at Shorty’s Pond,” said Jeff Fulop, youth fishing event coordinator for ODFW’s North Willamette Watershed District. “We’ve got a lot of beautiful fish, plenty of equipment, and some exceptional instructors on hand to help out.”
Shorty’s Pond is a 4-acre pond located within Ivor Davies Nature Park in in Molalla, across from Heckard Football Stadium. It can be accessed by the Fifth St. Trailhead.
The fishing is free for kids 13 years of age and younger. A juvenile license is required for anglers 14-17 years of age and can be purchased for $9 on-line at ODFW’s website (www.odfw.com), or at any ODFW field office or retail license agent. Adults are also welcome to fish but must have a valid fishing license in possession. Licenses will not be sold on site the day of the event so individuals planning to attend should purchase their license ahead of time.
