ROSEBURG, Ore - Greg Huchko has been named District Fish Biologist for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Umpqua District based in Roseburg. Huchko started his position July 1.
Huchko is well-known to many local anglers, guides, conservation groups and other natural resource professionals. He was ODFW’s STEP biologist for the past seven years, working with volunteers and angling groups to improve fishing and fishery resources in the Umpqua basin.
His ODFW background also includes habitat restoration, fishery research and conducting spawning ground surveys. Huchko also has worked for the BLM and the U.S. Forest Service in Oregon and Idaho and has done field work throughout the Western U.S. as well as white-tailed deer research in Pennsylvania.
Huchko is looking forward to continuing his work with groups and agencies throughout the Umpqua District and is excited about the future of the fisheries in the basin.
