ODFW to host meeting on plan to conserve redband trout

June 5, 2015

HINES, Ore. – The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife host a public meeting on June 11 in Burns to solicit public comment on a voluntary plan to manage and improve the numbers of redband trout in southeast Oregon. The meeting will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harney County Community Center, 484 N Broadway in Burns.

The Malheur Lakes and Catlow Valley Redband Trout Conservation Plan identifies current status, desired status, and limiting factors for redband trout and proposes management and conservation actions in the Malheur Lakes and Catlow Valley Species Management Units (SMU). The Malheur Lakes SMU includes: Silvies River Basin, Silver Creek Basin, Blitzen Basin, Coffepot Creek, Cow Creek, Poison Creek, Prater Creek, Rattlesnake Creek and Riddle Creek. The Catlow Valley SMU includes: Home Creek, Threemile Creek, Skull Creek and Rock Creek.

The meeting will provide a summary of the draft plan and an opportunity for public comment. Members of the public can find a copy of the draft plan on the ODFW website. People unable to attend the meeting can submit written comments to Kevin Goodson at Kevin.W.Goodson@state.or.us or Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Attn: Kevin Goodson, 4034 Fairview Industrial Dr., Salem, OR 97302. Comments are due by June 26, 2015.

The final plan is expected to be presented to the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission for approval at their Aug. 7, 2015 meeting.
