PORTLAND, Ore – The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is hosting a public meeting to get input on a draft management plan for its Flight’s End property on Sauvie Island. The meeting is March 18, 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the Sauvie Island Grange, 14443 NW Charlton Rd., Portland.
Comments will be taken at the meeting. Written public comments also will be accepted through March 26 and can be addressed to Susan Beilke, ODFW, 18330 NW Sauvie Island Rd., Portland OR 97231 or email sue.g.beilke@state.or.us.
The draft management plan seeks to restore habitat and convert cropland areas to wetlands, grasslands and wet prairie habitats. Public access and recreation including hunting and bird watching are included in the plan.
ODFW acquired the Flight’s End property in 2013 through the Willamette Wildlife Mitigation Program. Flight’s End is a 100-acre peninsula on the north end of Sauvie Island next to Sauvie Island Wildlife Area. The property has diverse wildlife including Northern red-legged frog and Willow Flycatcher which are listed as Strategy Species in the Oregon Conservation Strategy.
