SALEM, Ore.—Learn the basics of fly fishing at a May 14 workshop along the beautiful Fall River at the Fall River Fish Hatchery in Bend.
The fly fishing workshop runs from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and is open to adults (age 18 and over) only. In the morning, learn about equipment needed plus how to tie basic knots, read the water, “match the hatch” (match the fly you fish with the bugs in the water) and casting techniques. Then fly fish on the banks of the Fall River in the afternoon.
The cost is $52 and includes lunch plus all necessary equipment and instruction from experienced ODFW staff and volunteers. Space is limited and online pre-registration is required at ODFW’s license sales page. A current Oregon Fishing License is also required; purchase in advance (online or at a license sales agent).
“This is a great workshop for beginners looking to learn the basics of the sport,” said Shahab Farzanegan, ODFW angler education coordinator. “Plus the Fall River is a desirable location known for its excellent fly fishing opportunities.”
