BEND, Ore. – Young people interested in angling will be offered a great fishing opportunity by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife on Saturday, May 21 at Pine Nursery Pond, located at Pine Nursery Community Park in Bend.
To boost anglers’ chances of catching fish, ODFW will stock the pond with legal- and trophy-sized rainbow trout prior to the event. Resident bluegills in the pond are also available to fish.
The event is open to persons 17 and younger. ODFW will loan out fishing rods, reels, tackle and some bait on a first-come, first-serve basis between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Anglers 11 years of age and under can fish for free. Anglers ages 12-17 will need a youth license to participate, and licenses will not be sold at the event so individuals planning to attend should obtain their licenses ahead of time from any ODFW license agent.
Pine Nursery Pond is located in northeast Bend between Purcell, Deschutes Market and Yeoman Road. From Hwy 97, take Empire Blvd exit, head hast on Empire Blvd 1.5 miles, turn left on Purcell 1900 feet, turn right on Yeoman 700 feet, take first right that leads to park, turn left to parking lot that leads to pond.
Persons interested in fishing can explore many other opportunities by perusing ODFW’s stocking schedules, maps, guides and other resources at ODFW’s website, located at www.odfw.com under the “Fishing” tab.
