It is funded by a $4 surcharge on hunting licenses and proceeds from annual big game auctions and raffles.
Six Regional Councils each comprised of seven volunteers — three landowner representatives, three hunter representatives, and Chair —review and recommend wildlife habitat improvement and hunting access projects from their region to the statewide Access and Habitat Board for consideration.
Council members, appointed to four-year terms by the Access and Habitat Board, meet periodically to review project funding applications, hear public testimony and act as liaisons between the program and the public.
