Start planning your 2017 outdoor season: Fishing and hunting regulations in stores, licenses on sale now

SALEM, Ore.—The new 2017 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations and 2017 Oregon Big Game Hunting Regulations are now available at many outdoor stores, ODFW offices and online. All 2017 licenses and tags are also on sale now at license sales agents, ODFW offices that sell licenses, and online.

Big game hunters should have an easier time planning their hunting season this year as tag numbers for 2017 controlled hunts have already been set and are printed in the regulations. Previously, tag numbers were proposed in the spring and not finalized until summer. The change is meant to streamline the regulation process and also provide more certainty to hunters.

As always, changes from the previous year (beyond season date changes due to calendar shifts) are printed in red or bold text throughout the Big Game Hunting Regulations. There are few major changes this year, but hunters should always check the details for their hunt and hunting area.

Anglers will see changes marked in yellow highlighted text throughout the Sport Fishing Regulations. This year, they will also notice updated angling zone maps and expanded opportunities for hatchery Chinook in the Northwest Angling Zone.

Licenses make great gifts
To give a license, tag or other document as a gift, you will need the hunter or angler’s full name and date of birth (day, month, year). If the person has had a license before, make sure they have their ODFW hunter/angler ID number which is found at the top of their license and stays the same every year. If you are purchasing for someone who has never had a license, you will need to provide their social security number in compliance with Federal and State Laws.
