Learn to hunt rabbits Jan. 21 near Corvallis

January 5, 2017

SALEM, Ore.—Learn how to hunt rabbits in a safe environment perfect for beginning hunters. ODFW and Mary’s Peak Hound Club will host a small game hunting workshop on Saturday, Jan. 21, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at EE Wilson Wildlife Area near Corvallis.

The workshop will begin with a review of equipment and the dogs who will accompany hunters, including a discussion of how to safely hunt over hounds. Then participants can hunt both the morning and afternoon with the Club’s specially trained hounds and hunting equipment provided by ODFW. Later in the day, the workshop will cover field dressing and cooking tips including recipes.

Families are welcome with children age 9 and older eligible to register and attend with an adult. The cost is $52 for adults and $22 for youth.

To ensure a safe experience for participants and dogs, ODFW requires participants to attend a shotgun skills clinic prior to the event. ODFW will host the required shotgun skills class on Saturday, Jan. 14, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. also at EE Wilson Wildlife Area. The cost to attend is $12.

ODFW provides all necessary equipment at both events, including shotguns and eye and ear protection.

Space is limited and registration required at both events. Sign up now at any license sales agent or online.
