ODFW Fish Passage Task Force meets in Salem Aug. 15

Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017

SALEM, Ore. - Oregon's Fish Passage Task Force will meet Tuesday, Aug. 15 from 2-3 p.m. in the Steelhead Conference Room at the ODFW Headquarters Office at 4034 Fairview Industrial  Dr. SE, Salem.

This special meeting is open to the public. The agenda includes a new fish passage exemption request by the Warrenton Kia Automobile Dealership in Clatsop County. The project proponent proposes to extend a parking area and install a new culvert in a drainage ditch which carries water to an unnamed tributary to Youngs Bay, a tributary to the Columbia River.

According to Greg Apke, ODFW Fish Passage Program coordinator, ODFW may grant fish passage exemptions if there are no benefits to native migratory fish from providing passage. Because of the site specific habitat conditions and other artificial obstructions below the project location, ODFW has made an initial determination that even if fish passage was provided, the action would still result in no net benefit to native migratory fish. If in the future, conditions change from which the decision was made, exemptions can be revoked and fish passage shall be addressed.

The nine-member Fish Passage Task Force meets quarterly or as necessary to advise ODFW on fish passage policies and issues. Task Force members represent water users, fisheries and conservation interests, and the general public. Additional information on the Task Force or the ODFW Fish Passage Program is available on the ODFW website or by contacting Greg Apke at (503) 947-6228 or greg.d.apke@state.or.us

Reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed for individuals requesting assistive hearing devices, sign language interpreters or large-print materials. Individuals needing these types of accommodations may call the Information and Education Division at 800-720-6339 or 503-947-6002 at least 24-hours in advance of the meeting. For more information, call Lisa Kingsley Fish Screening and Passage Programs Assistant, at 503-947-6224.
